Due film in vetta alle nominations dei BAFTA, i premi inglesi: l’immancabile Nomadland e il sorprendente Rocks, con 7 candidature.
Diretto da Sarah Gavron (Suffragette), Rocks è un coming of age con una protagonista adolescente ed è distribuito da Netflix in molti territori, ma non in Italia.
Tra i cinque miglior film The Father e The Mauritanian, affiancano Nomadland, Il processo ai Chicago 7 e Promising Young Woman.
Curiosamente la categoria dei migliori registi è quasi interamente differente, comprendendo, assieme a Chloe Zhao, Thomas Vinterberg, Shannon Murphy, Lee Isaac Chung, Jasmila Žbanić e appunto Sarah Gavron.
In generale sono moltissimi i film citati nelle nominations, a riprova di un anno comunque ricco di proposte, soprattutto sulle piattaforme streaming.
E quindi sono menzionati Un altro giro, La nave sepolta, The White Tiger, Ammonite, Rebecca, Emma, Babyteeth, Quo Vadis Aida?, His House, Saint Maud, che raramente ricorrono nei premi americani.
