A Chloé Zhao il premio per la miglior regia, mentre Soul vince tra le animazioni e il film americano Minari vince tra quelli stranieri (??!!).
Trionfo postumo e prevedibile per Chadwick Boseman per Ma Rainey’s, mentre tra le attrici si impone la sconosciuta Andra Day, per un film di Lee Daniels sbertucciato da tutti e uscito su Hulu.
Per i ruoli brillanti Rosamund Pike e Sasha Baron Coen vincono con pieno merito, mentre Daniel Kaluuya e Jodie Foster si impongono tra i non protagonisti.
A Aaron Sorkin il premio per la sceneggiatura e a Laura Pausini con Diane Warren quello per la miglior canzone.
Nei premi tv, trionfo per The Crown, che si aggiudica addirittura 4 premi per la miglior serie drammatica e i migliori attori e la miglior non protagonista, mentre a La regina degli scacchi, alla sua protagonista Anya Taylor-Joy e a Mark Ruffalo per I Know This Much Is True vanno i premi per le limited series.
