Roman Polanski che con 12 candidature per L’ufficiale e la spia è il regista del film più nominato ai César del cinema francese, non parteciperà alla cerimonia di premiazione di domani sera.
Fin dall’annuncio delle candidature, le polemiche sono riesplose nuovamente, nonostante il suo film abbai trovato pubblico e buona accoglienza in Francia. Nel corso degli ultimi giorni le proteste sono riesplose con manifesti violentissimi attaccati sul teatro parigino in cui saranno consegnati i premi.
Il board dell’Accademia dei Cèsar si è dimesso in blocco, ed è stata nominata presidente ad interim la produttrice Margaret Ménégoz che ha prodotto quasi tutti i film di Haneke e Rohmer.
Adele Haenel, l’attrice di Ritratto della giovane in fiamme, anche lei candidata, volto francese del #metoo dopo aver denunciato i comportamenti inappropriati e molesti del regista Christophe Ruggia, quando lei aveva solo 13 anni ed era una debuttante nel mondo del cinema, ha dichiarato al New York Times: “Distinguishing Polanski is spitting in the face of all victims. It means raping women isn’t that bad. When “An Officer and a Spy” was released, we heard outcries about censorship. It isn’t censorship — it’s about choosing who one wants to watch. And old rich white men, rest assured: You own all of the communication channels”.
Polanski ha annunciato così a Variety che non parteciperò alla cerimonia:
“For several days, people have asked me this question: Will I or won’t I attend the Cesar ceremony? The question I ask in turn is this: How could I?”
“The way the night will unfold, we already know in advance. Activists have already threatened me with a public lynching. Some have announced protests in front of the Salle Pleyel. Others intend to make it a platform to denounce (the) governing body. It promises to look more like a symposium than a celebration of cinema.”
“The press and social media have presented our 12 nominations as if they were gifts offered to us by the academy’s board of directors, as some authoritarian gesture that had forced their resignations. Doing so undermines the secret vote of the 4,313 professionals who alone decide the nominations, and the more than 1.5 million viewers who came to see the film.”
