Chi si aspettava il trionfo di Lady Gaga è rimasto sorpreso. A Star is Born si fa sfuggire l’ambito premio del pubblico del Toronto Film Festival che sorride invece al film, che è già stato soprannominato ‘il nuovo A spasso con Daisy’, con buona pace di Spike Lee e di tutti quelli che hanno sempre odiato il film paternalista di Bruce Beresford.
Stiamo parlando di Green Book, diretto da Peter Farrelly (sì, uno dei due fratelli di Tutti pazzi per Mary e Scemo & più scemo).
Il film di Bradley Cooper non è arrivato nemmeno secondo: come runner up il pubblico ha scelto il nuovo film di Berry Jenkins, idolo di Toronto, con il suo If Beale Street Could Talk.
Interpretato da Viggo Mortensen e Mahershala Ali, Green Book è ambientato nel 1962, quando un buttafuori bianco del Bronx viene ingaggiato per scortare e fare da autista ad un famoso pianista nero, che deve tenere un concerto nel sud razzista di quegli anni.

When Tony Lip (Mortensen), a bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx, is hired to drive Dr. Don Shirley (Ali), a world-class Black pianist, on a concert tour from Manhattan to the Deep South, they must rely on “The Green Book” to guide them to the few establishments that were then safe for African-Americans. Confronted with racism, danger—as well as unexpected humanity and humor—they are forced to set aside differences to survive and thrive on the journey of a lifetime.
