Uscirà il 9 agosto per Harper Collins negli Stati Uniti il romanzo che Michael Mann ha scritto nell’universo narrativo di Heat, il suo film del 1995, con De Niro, Kilmer e Pacino.
Deadline ed Empire hanno intervistato Mann in proposito.
Heat 2 racconterà una storia d’origini del personaggio di Neil McCauley, il rapinatore interpretato da De Niro veterano del Vietnam e proseguirà con la caccia del poliziotto Vincent Hanna a Chris Shiherlis, l’unico sopravvissuto della banda originale.
Mann che ha scritto il romanzo con Meg Gardiner è intenzionato a portare il libro sul grande schermo, per un film che si annuncia costoso e ambizioso quanto l’originale.
“It’s been my intention for a long time to do the further stories of ‘Heat. There was always a rich history or backstory about the events in these people’s lives before 1995 in ‘Heat’ and projection of where their lives would take them after.”
Mann ha confermato che De Niro e Kilmer non torneranno, perchè quasi tutte le loro scene si svolgono sei anni prima gli eventi del primo film. Qualche speranza c’è per Pacino.
“It’s known. I could delude myself into thinking that the whole world is familiar with it, but when you check out its prominence in home vid for over 20 years, this thing really has legs. People are still watching it, people are still talking about it. It’s a brand. It’s kind of a ‘Heat’ universe, in a way. And that certainly justifies a very large ambitious movie.”
