Con un’aggiunta dell’ultimo minuto, il concorso di Cannes si arricchisce di Route Irish, il nuovo film di Ken Loach sulla guerra in Iraq.
E’ il 19° film in gara.
Inizialmente Loach sembrava voler evitare una nuova partecipazione alla Croisette, dopo il trionfo di Il vento che accrezza l’erba nel 2006 ed Il mio amico Eric del 2009. Questa la sinossi:
“Route Irish” was written by regular Loach scriber Paul Laverty, and tells the story of two ex-soldiers in love with the same woman who head to Iraq to work as private contractors. It’s set both in Liverpool and Iraq, where a contractor named Fergus (Mark Womack) returns following the death of his friend along the deadly road (from where pic’s title is taken) that links the Green Zone with the airport used by the coalition.
Ritorna alla fotografia dopo moltissimi anni Chris Menges, che aveva lavorato con Loach negli anni ’70. Il film è stato girato in Giodania ed in Inghilterra ed include una serie di sequenze d’azione inusuali per Loach.
Il film è prodotto dalla Sixteen Films assieme ai francesi di Why Not e Wild Bunch.
Secondo Thierry Fremaux, le sorprese di Cannes potrebbero continuare…
