Ci è voluta solo una settimana alla Chastain per licenziare far dimettere Matthew Newton, il regista e sceneggiatore australiano del suo prossimo film, Eve.
Il 2 agosto avevamo annunciato, con una certa ironia, la notizia della sua prossima curiosa collaborazione: la Chastain avrebbe interpretato e prodotto Eve, un thriller d’azione, scritto e diretto dal semi-sconosciuto Newton.
Nel giro di qualche ora, la Chastain, paladina – sinora – senza macchia e senza paura del #metoo in salsa puritana è stata presa di mira dal coro di prefiche un tanto al tweet, custodi della nostra morale.
Eppure, sarebbe bastato andare sulla pagina di wikipedia di questo Newton, per leggere le notizie sul suo bipolarismo, sulle aggressioni familiari e il suo passato turbolento.
Evidentemente ad Hollywood non hanno una buona connessione o forse google è ancora troppo nuovo da usare. E ancora una volta la legge del taglione e l’ipocrisia disgustosa di questi mesi hanno avuto la meglio.
Newton ha annunciato contrito: “Yesterday I notified Jessica Chastain and the other producers on the film ‘Eve’ that I will be stepping down as director. Since the announcement of this film, the responses, which are powerful and important, have not fallen on deaf ears. I am profoundly aware that I have a responsibility to lead where I have failed in the past. I can never undo the harm that I’ve caused the people I’ve cared about and I carry that shame and responsibility with me every day. Over the past eight years I have been working extensively with healthcare professionals to help me overcome my addiction and mental health illness. For the past six years I have lived a quiet and sober life. All I can do now is try to be a living amends and hopefully contribute to the positive change occurring in our industry”.
La Chastain troverà un nuovo regista, ma manterrà la sceneggiatura.
E vissero tutti così: ipocriti, moralisti e contenti.
