L’avevamo anticipato qualche giorno fa, ora è una notizia ufficiale. Lo hobbit, già trasformato da un raccontino per bambini in un dittico di 5-6 ore, diventa ora una trilogia.
Peter Jackson ha ufficializzato che ci sarà un terzo film realizzato a partire dalla grande mole di girato e arricchito con due mesi di riprese da effettuarsi la prossima estate.
It is only at the end of a shoot that you finally get the chance to sit down and have a look at the film you have made. Recently Fran, Phil and I did just this when we watched for the first time an early cut of the first movie – and a large chunk of the second. We were really pleased with the way the story was coming together, in particular, the strength of the characters and the cast who have brought them to life. All of which gave rise to a simple question: do we take this chance to tell more of the tale? And the answer from our perspective as the filmmakers, and as fans, was an unreserved ‘yes.’
We know how much of the story of Bilbo Baggins, the Wizard Gandalf, the Dwarves of Erebor, the rise of the Necromancer, and the Battle of Dol Guldur will remain untold if we do not take this chance. The richness of the story of The Hobbit, as well as some of the related material in the appendices of The Lord of the Rings, allows us to tell the full story of the adventures of Bilbo Baggins and the part he played in the sometimes dangerous, but at all times exciting, history of Middle-earth.
So, without further ado and on behalf of New Line Cinema, Warner Bros. Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Wingnut Films, and the entire cast and crew of “The Hobbit” films, I’d like to announce that two films will become three.
It has been an unexpected journey indeed, and in the words of Professor Tolkien himself, “a tale that grew in the telling.”

Il solo pensiero di dover affrontare la visione de Lo Hobbit per tre natali di seguito mi fa correre un brivido lungo la schiena, anche se qualcuno sostiene che il terzo film possa uscire già nell’estate del 2014.

Il primo film della trilogia, “Lo Hobbit: Un Viaggio Inaspettato” sarà distribuito dal 14 dicembre 2012 ed il secondo film dal 13 dicembre 2013, mentre il terzo capitolo è previsto per l’estate del 2014. Tutti e tre i film saranno distribuiti in 3D e 2D nei migliori cinema e sale IMAX.
Dal regista premio Oscar® Peter Jackson arrivano tre film basati su Lo Hobbit di J.R.R. Tolkien. La trilogia è ambientata nella Terra di Mezzo, 60 anni prima de “Il Signore degli Anelli”, che Jackson ed il suo team portarono sul grande schermo in una trilogia campione di incassi che culminò con il film premio Oscar® “Il Signore degli Anelli: Il Ritorno del Re”.
Ian McKellen torna torna nei panni di Gandalf il Grigio, lo stesso personaggio che aveva interpretato nella trilogia “Il Signore degli Anelli”, con Martin Freeman nel ruolo principale di Bilbo Baggins e Richard Armitage nei panni di Thorin Scudodiquercia. Tra i grandi ritorni dal cast de “Il Signore degli Anelli” troviamo anche Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood e Andy Serkis come “Gollum.” Il cast di ordine internazionale include anche (in ordine alfabetico) John Bell, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Billy Connolly, Luke Evans, Stephen Fry, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Barry Humphries, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Evangeline Lilly, Sylvester McCoy, Bret McKenzie, Graham McTavish, Mike Mizrahi, James Nesbitt, Dean O’Gorman, Lee Pace, Mikael Persbrandt, Conan Stevens, Ken Stott, Jeffrey Thomas e Aidan Turner.
La sceneggiatura de “Lo Hobbit: Un Viaggio Inaspettato” è di Fran Walsh & Philippa Boyens & Peter Jackson & Guillermo del Toro. Jackson è anche produttore del film, insieme a Carolynne Cunningham, Zane Weiner e Fran Walsh. I produttori esecutivi sono Alan Horn, Toby Emmerich, Ken Kamins e Carolyn Blackwood, con Boyens e Eileen Moran come co-produttori.
Sotto la regia di Jackson, tutti e tre i film sono girati in digitale 3D usando la più recente tecnologia di ripresa video ed audio. Le riprese aggiuntive, così come quelle principali, stanno avendo luogo luogo agli Stone Street Studios, Wellington, e in altre location in Nuova Zelanda.
“Lo Hobbit: Un Viaggio Inaspettato” e i capitoli successivi sono una produzione di New Line Cinema e MGM, con New Line alla gestione della produzione. Warner Bros. Pictures sta gestendo la distribuzione cinematografica in tutto il mondo, in mercati internazionali selezionati mentre tutti i diritti televisivi sono gestiti da MGM.

I film si giudicano dopo averli visti e non prima. Ma questa decisione ha due elementi molto negativi: da un lato asseconda il gigantismo pacchiano di Jackson e la sua incapacità di sintesi, dall’altro sembra l’ennesima trovata per spillare qualche soldo ai fans. Così come è avvenuto ed avverrà per Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Twilight… si allunga il brodo dell’ultimo episodio, persino rispetto a serie inutilmente lunghe, per raddoppiare gli incassi.
Tutto questo a scapito della coerenza narrativa e della necessità di ogni episodio.
Sarebbe bastato un solo film a raccontare Lo hobbit. Due erano già troppi. Tre diventano un’esagerazione senza senso.
