Le sequenze utilizzate per una parte di The tree of life, relative alla genersi della vita sulla Terra, saranno probabilmente ampliate in un film autonomo, un Viaggio nel Tempo che potrebbe debuttare presto nelle sale IMAX.
Si era molto parlato di queste sequenze e della parte relativa ai dinosauri. Nel film uscito nelle sale è stato ridotto ad una mezz’ora straordinaria, ma Bill Pohland, presentato l’antemprima americana di The tree of life ha chiarito che Malick vorrebbe farne un’opera a se stante.
It’s still a strong desire of Terry’s, and we’re all kind of working on getting it together… There will be footage that we shot during the course of ‘Tree of Life’ that we shot during that movie, but it won’t be that same footage.
Jessica Chastain ha invece confermato di aver girato con Malick anche il successivo The Burial, anche se in una piccolissima parte:
I feel weird saying I was in two [Malick] films… I can say I was on two sets. I’m in one film and I was on another set. I don’t know if I’m going to be in that film. It was a small [part]. I was only there for two days.
