Con un’intervista a Le Figaro, riportata in inglese da Deadline, il presidente del Festival di Cannes, Pierre Lescure ha parlato dell’emergenza Coronavirus e delle conseguenze possibili per il festival più importante del mondo e chiarendo anche le questioni assicurative, che erano state oggetto di una polemica sterile nei giorni scorsi.
Si è detto innanzitutto “reasonably optimistic in the hope that the peak of the epidemic will be reached at the end of March and that we will breathe a little better in April.”
Ovviamente saranno le autorità politiche ad avere l’ultima parola.
Sull’offerta assicurativa rifiutata, in caso di annullamento del festival, ha precisato: “This offer was made to us about ten days ago, but it was totally disproportionate. We were only offered to cover ourselves up to $2.3 million (€2 million) while our budget is $36 million (€32 million). It was really peanuts. The company was clearly playing the bounty hunters and we of course declined this proposal.”
Lescure ha comunque precisato che il bilancio del festival è in grado al momento di tollerare l’annullamento dell’edizione 2020 senza grandi sofferenze “We have a setup that allows us to face at least one year without revenue.”
Questo a differenza del SXSW che ha invece dovuto licenziare 50 persone del suo staff dopo l’annullamento.
Ricordiamo infine che il ministro della cultura è uno dei 1600 casi positivi in Francia.
