Kevin McDonald (L’ultimo Re di Scozia) è subentrato a Jonathan Demme, nella realizzazione di un nuovo documentario su Bob Marley, icona del reggae giamaicano, simbolo di libertà e figura carismatica per tutto il Sud del mondo.
La Magnolia Pictures ha acquistato i diritti del film, intitolato semplicemente Marley e lo distribuirà in sala e in VOD a partire dal prossimo 20 aprile negli Stati Uniti.
Il film ha avuto il beneplacido della famiglia e di Chris Blackwell, a capo dell’etichetta che ha pubblicato i suoi dischi, la Island Records.
Marley follows the musician, revolutionary and legend from his earliest days to his rise to international superstardom using rare footage, archival photos and incredible performances and interviews with his family, friends and bandmates.
Secondo McDonald: when I went to Uganda for ‘Last King of Scotland‘ I was amazed at how Marley was present there and I’ve subsequently seen it in other parts of the developing world. Marley as this kind of saint, a philosophical and religious figure. I then became more interested in him and why he has that kind of reach.
