Difficile immaginare questi due registi in uno stesso post: il mago dell’action di Hong Kong assieme al più interessante dei giovani talenti cinesi, premiato con il Leone d’Oro per Still Life.
Invece è proprio così: gireranno un film d’azione insieme, In the Qing Dynasty, una produzione di Johnnie To per Media Asia e Milky Way, diretta da Jia Zhang Ke.
Il film, un wuxia sulla dinastia Qing, sarà il primo film ad alto budget per il regista cinese, di solito abituato a piccolissime troupe, riprese digitali e realismo magico.
In the process of pre-production, director Johnnie To has given me valuable guidance. This film is set in 1905, the twilight years of Qing Dynasty, it’s about a romantic wuxia story that takes place after the abolishment of imperial examination. There will be lots of action scenes, as well as various comical elements in the form of wry humour. While it has its share of action, I believe that this is actually an anti-wuxia film.
