Cominciano a circolare le prime indiscrezioni sui film che approderanno sulla Croisette.
According to the film website cineuropa.org, Moretti will be in competition with Habemus Papam, the Dardennes with The Kid With a Bike, Aki Kaurismaki with Le Havre and Van Sant with Restless, based on Jason Lew’s play about two lovers waiting to die. Von Trier, meanwhile, will return with Melancholia, a dystopian drama starring Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland and Kirsten Dunst. The Danish director famously provoked a storm of protest when he premiered his previous film, Antichrist, at the 2009 event.
Other possible contenders include Walter Salles‘s adaptation of On the Road and Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method, both of which feature Viggo Mortensen – the latter as Sigmund Freud. It also seems likely that this year’s event will witness the belated unveiling of The Tree of Life, an inter-generational drama starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn. Directed by the reclusive Terrence Malick, the film was originally tipped to premiere at last year’s Cannes film festival.
Tra gli americani potrebbe farsi vedere anche Twixt Now and Sunrise di Francis Ford Coppola, che due anni fa aprì con Tetro la Quinzaine, dopo qualche polemica con il direttore sulla sua collocazione in concorso.
Ovviamente nel lotto dovrebbe esserci anche La piel que habito di Almodovar, abbonato al Festival da molti anni. Si parla anche di Once Upon A Time In Anatolia del turco Nuri Bilge Ceylan, di Elena di Andrei Zvyagintsev e del Faust di Alexander Sokurov.
The festival may also play host to Shame, the new work from Hunger director Steve McQueen, along with Andrea Arnold‘s adaptation of Wuthering Heights.
Il gruppo dei francesi sarà molto generoso, anche se forse mancheranno i gioielli di Cantet, Audiard, Assayas, Beauvais e Desplechin, visti nelle ultime edizioni:
Likely French contenders include Bruno Dumont’s L’Empire, Philippe Garrel’s That Summer, Christophe Honoré’s musical comedy The Beloved and Chicken With Plums by directorial duo Vincent Paronnaud and Marjane Satrapi.
Come vedete, per l’Europa non manca davvero nessuno. C’è solo l’imbarazzo della scelta per Thierry Fremaux. La pattuglia asiatica invece, come al solito, dovrebbe essere meno folta… a beneficio di Venezia.
Rumour has it that Wong Kar-waï’s The Grandmasters will not be ready on time, but the director is no stranger to last-minute entries at Cannes. The timing might also be (too) tight for Brillante Mendoza’s Captured, Hou Hsiao hsien’s Assassin and Wang Xiaoshuai’s Eleven Flowers.
Meanwhile, definite entries include Lou Ye’s Love and Bruises (starring Tahar Rahim), I Wish by Japan’s Hirokazu Kore-eda and Life Without Principle by Johnnie To.
Per l’Italia, oltre a Nanni Moretti, ci dovrebbero essere quasi certamente in concorso, fuori concorso o nella sezione Un certain regard anche i nuovi film di Gianni Amelio, Il primo uomo, da Camus, coprodotto dalla Francia, This must be the place di Sorrentino con Sean Penn, coprodotto con gli USA e Terraferma di Emanuele Crialese, con Donatella Finocchiaro e Beppe Fiorello, ancora ambientato in Sicilia, in un’isola di pescatori improvvisamente sconvolta dall’arrivo di un gruppo di immigrati clandestini.
Se saremo accreditati anche quest’anno, ci sarà da lustrarsi gli occhi…
