Parlando al podcast Happy Sad Confused, Christopher McQuarrie ha confermato di aver lavorato con Ehren Kruger alla storia del nuovo Top Gun che è sostanzialmente pronta: “It’s already in the bag…Yeah, I already know what it is, wasn’t hard. I thought it would be, and that’s a good place to go from…Ehren Kruger pitched something, and the framework is there, so, no, it’s not hard to crack. The truth of the matter is none of these are hard to crack. It’s not the scope or scale of action, the engineering of the action, it’s none of those things, it’s the emotion”.
Non è escluso che possa sostituire John Kosinski alla regia. Si parla molto anche di Chalamet, un vero patito di Maverick, che potrebbe a questo punto accettare un ruolo all’interno del nuovo film.
Ma è verosimile che bisognerà attendere che Cruise partecipi a Deeper, il film di Doug Liman con Ana De Armas, ambientato nelle profondità marine, nato da uno spec script di Max Landis su cui verosimilmente McQuarrie metterà le mani, così come capitato in questi tutti gli ultimi progetti interpretati da Cruise, che ben 11 volte si è affidato allo sceneggiatore de I soliti sospetti.
