David Denby, severissimo critico della rivista New Yorker, si scioglie in un’entusiastica recensione di Avatar, che debutta questa sera negli Stati Uniti.
James Cameron’s “Avatar” is the most beautiful film I’ve seen in years.
It’s the old story of Pocahontas and John Smith, mixed, perhaps, with the remnants of Westerns (like “Dances with Wolves”) in which a white man spends some time with the Comanche or the Sioux and then, won over, tries to defend the tribe against the advancing civilization that will annihilate it.
The movie’s story may be a little trite, and the big battle at the end between ugly mechanical force and the gorgeous natural world goes on forever, but what a show Cameron puts on! The continuity of dynamized space that he has achieved with 3-D gloriously supports his trippy belief that all living things are one.
Ci sia consentito ricordare che l’Italia sarà l’ultimo paese occidentale a vederlo: grazie all’occupazione delle sale da parte di cinepanettoni ed affini, non c’era spazio a Natale per un film epocale come Avatar.
Ed allora teniamoci i Pieraccioni e i De Sica. Continuiamo così, facciamo del male… mentre il cinema se ne va da un’altra parte…
